Why Your Body Still Doesn’t Feel Right After Having Kids

And what you can do about it…

If you’ve had kids and your body still doesn’t feel quite right, you’re not alone.

A lot of women are told they’re “cleared” around six weeks postpartum. And while that milestone matters medically, it doesn’t always reflect what’s actually happening in your body.

Because here’s the reality, no one is really checking your pelvic floor, core strength, or how everything is working together. So months, or even years later, many women are still dealing with things like:

  • leaking when you sneeze, laugh, or run

  • a core that feels weak or disconnected

  • back or hip pain that won’t go away

  • not quite feeling like yourself in your body

And most assume this is just part of having kids.

The Missing Piece: Your Pelvic Floor + Core Connection

Your pelvic floor and your core are meant to work together.

Together they have 5 main functions:

  1. Stability: Acts as the bottom of the barrel for stability, “second diaphragm”

  2. Sphincter: Voluntary control of the bladder and bowels

  3. Support: Supports organs during movement

  4. Circulation: Pumps blood back up to the heart

  5. Reproduction: Intercourse and parturition

When that system isn’t functioning well, your body starts to compensate.

That’s when you may notice things like tightness that never fully goes away, discomfort during workouts, hesitation when jumping, running, or lifting, and feeling less confident in your body

It’s not just about “getting stronger.” It’s about getting your body working the way it was designed to.

Why “Just Exercise” Isn’t Enough

A lot of women try to get back into workouts and do all the “right things.”

But without addressing how your core is functioning and how your pelvic floor is responding you can end up reinforcing the problem instead of fixing it. That’s why things like stretching more, doing random core workouts, or pushing through discomfort don’t always solve the issue.

What We Focus on at The Movement Lab

At The Movement Lab, our approach is simple:

We look at how your body moves, how your core and pelvic floor are functioning separately and together, and where your body is compensating.

From there, we build a plan to help you rebuild strength, improve coordination, and restore confidence in your body. This isn’t about quick fixes. It’s about helping your body work better long term.

What This Looks Like for You

When your pelvic floor and core are working together, you start to notice real changes. You feel more supported in your movement, you’re not worried about leaking during activity, your strength feels more connected and controlled, and you move with more confidence. Most importantly, you start to feel like yourself again.

You Don’t Have to “Just Live With It”

If you’ve been dealing with these issues, it’s easy to assume it’s just part of life after kids, but it doesn’t have to be.

With the right approach, your body can:

  • get stronger

  • move better

  • feel more like you again

Where to Start

If you’re not sure what your body needs, that’s the first step.

At The Movement Lab, we start with a consultation to understand:

  • what you’re experiencing

  • how your body is functioning

  • what the right next step looks like for you

From there, we’ll guide you toward a plan that helps you move forward with confidence.
